A-Type Mom Test

I do my best to make sure the boys’ bedrooms are a place where they feel uniquely themselves. One of the ways I do this is by decorating the walls with canvases I paint myself (super fun creative outlet) with pictures of their latest obsession.

The most recent project was Ninja Turtles for Asher, and Dinosaurs, Trucks, and Farm Animals for Jaret. I took the time to find pictures that would work well to transfer onto tracing paper to canvases. I printed the pictures on legal size paper from my office at the hospital, and made a special trip to the store for the right color paint.

I let the boys help me paint the canvases before tracing the pictures onto them. The next night, I sat down with my little paint brushes to do the detail work. I was so excited to get their new pictures completed.

Then they spotted me! They asked to help. I told them this was my project for their rooms. They insisted they help. It took everything in me, my husband laughing at my inability to go with the flow, and my 4 year old getting anxious that something was wrong, to let them take the brushes and paint like little boys paint.

It was so hard for me! But it was so freeing and such a great lesson all at the same time.

Needless to say the pictures look nothing like I expected them too. And, I suppose it was a good mom-son activity…once I let the control, A-type, colour inside the lines part of me go.

With love and gratitude,
