About Me

Welcome! My name is Allie; I am the founder and voice of the Rockabye Balance blog. My mission is to help women find happiness, internal peace, and life balance in the chaos of motherhood. I aim to do this by sharing strategies, rituals, tips, and ideas about how to get the most from your Mind, Body, and Soul.

Documented here you will find my story, essentially my journal, about my experience of losing myself after becoming a mom and my ongoing journey towards finding myself again. I will write about my continued learning on self-love, self-acceptance, thriving on my own terms, and letting go of the guilt associated with being the “perfect” mom.

Ultimate success for me would be that my stories help you to know that you are NOT alone. No matter how long you have been a parent or felt lost for, you are not doomed, you CAN find yourself again and become a HAPPY HEALTHY MOM!

I want to support you on your transformation in becoming everything you want and gaining back control of your life.

Who Am I?

I am the mom of two little boys, 4 and 2 years old. A wife to the man of my dreams who also happens to be an incredible father to our children. Summer is my favorite season. Horses are my therapy and my passion. I live in a small town in rural Alberta with a population of 13,500. I enjoy spending as much time outdoors as possible. My go-to outfit is yoga pants with a tank top or baggy sweater, and my favorite treat is anything mint flavored.

I believe that being a parent is a privilege and the most important job in the world. As parents, we have the power to shape the future by teaching our children how to live healthfully, compassionately, and generously, have a strong work ethic and impact the world in a positive way.

By devoting my entire existence to my children while trying to be the perfect mom and wife, I lost myself completely. Being a stranger to myself both internally and externally made it extremely difficult for me to be the role model I believe my children deserve and the wife I want to be.

Binge eating, weight gain, loss of motivation, depression, confusion, and regret became part of my daily life. I had nothing left to give myself and therefore nothing left for anyone else. I spiraled out of control.

With the support of others, a change of perspective, and a lot of hard work I was able to begin taking back control of my life. I gained purpose and direction which made me feel whole and helped me to see my life as full again. My journey into blogging grew organically from experiencing this change and feeling what it’s like to become truly happy and balanced.

I am not a doctor, psychologist, or coach. I am simply sharing information from books, motivational speakers, podcasts, lectures, and conversations that have helped me. I will pass along lessons I have learned from the many, many coaches and trainers I have had. As well I will voice my own insights from my experiences.

My wish is that these will be transformative lessons of wellness for you as they were for me and that they will help you navigate the fragile and unique priorities of your life. I hope you will use my experiences to catapult yourself to a new level of happiness and a renewed sense of meaning in your own life.

It has become my mission to support others on their journey to becoming HAPPY HEALTHY MOMS.

Believe me, I get you! I have been in your shoes. If I can change, you can too!

I have felt the agony of being lost in my mind, body, and soul; not knowing where to go, who to turn to, or what to do. I know what it’s like to have my life instantly changed by my children and to and wait for the day it goes back to ‘normal’. I am familiar with times of regretting motherhood, feeling hopeless, and wanting to run away from myself and my life.

I also know there is nothing better than feeling at ease, even in-love, with yourself and I want to support you in getting there. I want us all to feel amazing. I want us all to be our best. I want us all to be happy so we can offer our best, and be the best role models we can be.

We all need support on this unpaved road of motherhood and that is exactly what this blog is all about! Being there for each other over all the bumps, through the potholes and wrong turns. My intention is for this to be a safe place to share thoughts, love, and ideas as we take this journey together. Let’s help each other make this the best off road adventure of our lives!

    A Little Extra

  • I was born in Benoni, South Africa, a smaller city just outside Johannesburg. I immigrated to Canada with my family in October 1995. I had never experienced anything as cold as stepping out of the airport on that day.
  • Horses are my passion; I rode a horse for the first time before I could walk. My dream is to live on a farm where I can ride every day and feel the freedom of the openness of the country.
  • Travel is very important to me. Whether it is a drive or a flight away, I believe we can learn so much from experiencing other cultures and ways of living. I have been fortunate enough to visit Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Poland, Lithuania, Amsterdam, Israel, many states in the USA, as well as many parts of Canada.
  • A cliché meeting…I met my husband at the gym. We have been together for 12 years now.
  • I currently work part-time as an Administrative Assistant at the hospital in our small town. For me, this allows a beautiful balance of work and life.
  • I love to eat a whole-food, plant based diet. My husband is completely opposite living mostly off of meat. My 4 year old eats like me, while my 2 year old eats like my hubby. I guess that’s what happens when at each meal there are 2 options.
  • Summer is my favorite season, outdoors is my playground. I love camping, being in the water, laying in the sun, and walking our dog. In the winter when time permits, I love to snowboard.
  • I am a huge advocate for “me-time”. Two of my favorite “me time” activities are morning meditation, and going to the gym.
